Grilling Safety Tips for Memorial Day Weekend

Grilling Safety Tips for Memorial Day Weekend

We wish you a fun and safe Memorial Day weekend here at LegalEASE! Memorial Day weekend is a popular time to fire up the grill and make some burgers. Below are some tips for BBQ safety.

  1. Set up your grill outside and away from any buildings and structures.1 We also suggest paying attention to tree branches stretching over your grilling area.
  2. Keep your grill clean. According to the NFPA, failure to cleaning the grill was the leading factor contributing to one-fifth of all grill structure fires.2
  3. Check for propane leaks on your gas grill. According to Nationwide, “check the gas tank hose for leaks by applying a light soap and water solution to the hose and then turning on the gas. If there is a propane leak, the solution will bubble. Other signs of a propane leak include the smell of gas near the barbecue or a flame that won’t light.”3
  4. If a grease fire does occur, do not use water to put out the fire. Instead, keep a fire extinguisher nearby. If you don’t have a fire extinguisher, it can be smothered using baking soda or sand.4
